DIY QUESTION: Gathered end hammock with Knotty mod

I'm making an 11 foot gathered end hammock with the stretch side mod. What a great idea that mod is. I've searched and read a bunch of posts about how to do the mod but I can't find one detail I need. Here's my question. Measuring from the knot end where do you start and stop the bungee channel? All the pictures I've looked at seem to start a few feet from the gathered end "knot" but I can't find a specific dimension in any of the posts. What have others done or what do the commercial guys do? Note: I'm getting help with the sewing so it isn't practical for me to try it out and see what works best for me. Thanks!

Thanks redpath. That's a good reference. The hammock in that thread is a little shorter than mine though. Maybe those dimensions would work ok on an 11 footer ... don't know

This is from Knotty himself. Also here is the Knotty Mod thread : https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=29560

Thanks wk2. Something like that is what I was searching for and never found. I appreciate your help. Knotty's diagram is for an 10-6 hammock though and I'm doing an 11 footer. Maybe the length and location of the bungees doesn't matter much. But, since the bungees are there to remove slack and an 11 footer will have more slack I'm guessing it may be a performance issue. Has anyone done an 11 foot DIY hammock with the knotty mod?

It's not that critical. I've done full length knotty mods starting about 6" from the knot. If you're worried just do it for do a 3' section instead of a 2'. Longer is not going to hurt.
    Good luck,

Re: DIY QUESTION: Gathered end hammock with Knotty mod

I start the mod 30" from the end channel stitches.

Thanks everyone. Good information. I should be able to finish up now. I have the side seams sewn and still have the two 5 foot ends and knotty mod to do. I'm planning to do add-on channels to hold the bungee instead of trying to utilize the side seams as a channel. I have two other questions: 1) Can anyone suggest a good stuff sack size to stuff the hammock? 2) I am considering knotty modding all four corners or opposite corners on opposite ends ...any input on which would be smarter?

Does anyone have any input on the last two questions from my last post? Thanks again.

Lay in your hammock, get comfortable. Mark the center of where your feet lie, or where the side is the most floppy... I'd go 12"-14" on both sides of that mark for the mod...
