Most of the guys I hang with create their own plant-wilting "dead zones" around the lowest point of their underquilts during the night. Something to do with dehydrated foods I believe. Of course I have no personal knowledge of this phenomenon, but strangely enough I never seem to have critter problems myself. Hmmm.

Last year sometime in the early morning hours I was waken from a beautiful sleep when something poked me between the shoulder blades. Instantly awake and laid there for a minute listening. Finally heard some rustle so rolled over the edge of the hammock and was face to face with an armadillo sitting up on his rear end looking at me. Felt a lot better then and rolled back over and went back to sleep.

Anyone else have incidents similar? :what:

Shug is like snowwhite. When Shug camps everything is frozen solid.

When the squirrels come out Shug juggles.

Last year in the Adirondacks we encountered some red squirrels. They got a real kick out of running across our tarps all day. Seeing those little claws on my cuben fiber upset the heck out of me.

One morning a red squirrel climbed up into my son's Buginator bugnet, and then right in the hammock with him. I was surprised at how calm both the squirrel and my son handled the situation. Squirrel was gently escorted from the hammock, bugnet cinched up a bit more, and back to sleep.

A red squirrel also took my Bahco folding saw - I caught him right before he headed up the tree with it.

Slept in the hammock for 5 nights last week on the AT, in the shelters. Those things are perfect for ratts. I did feel a pull at my underquilt one night, but I kicked the little bugger off. Other than that, one section hiker did make a mad dash to pee in the middle of the night, and swiped me, left me swinging pretty good..I thought I was dreaming.. 36 miles, no bear sightings...sigh...
