Even more amazing is oldgringo's use of the term "seismograph don't lie."
There's a basketball saying, "Ball don't lie," popularized by Rasheed Wallace, the basketball player who happens to hold the NBA record for most technical fouls in a season. What does it mean?

    http://basketball.about.com/od/colle...-Don-T-Lie.htm

Definition: The phrase "ball don't lie" is a general response to any situation where an opponent gets a questionable call but fails to benefit; a way of saying that the basketball gods had reviewed the play on some sort of karmic instant replay and decided to set things right.

Here's Sheed at his best, getting a personal foul, a technical foul, and then a second technical and ejection for yelling "Ball don't lie!" after the opponent misses his technical free throw. Sheed obviously didn't agree with the previous foul call.

Now imagine oldgringo in his hammock, feels a tremor, lifts the cat up gently out of his lap, gets out of his hammock, checks the seismograph, and starts yelling, "SEISMOGRAPH DON'T LIE! SEISMOGRAPH DON'T LIE!"

The poor cat scurries into the living room and hides behind the couch for the rest of the day, wondering what he did wrong.

    Re: Earthquake

Now that's funny! I hope you enjoyed the tremor, OG. 3's don't break anything, normally.... I am surprised the cats didn't wake you just before it hits... they sometimes get really freaked out 5-10 seconds before he world starts a' rollin' . 5's get a little scary... now why hell do I work in a red brick building in San Diego?

For your viewing enjoyment, more oldgringo clips of his NBA days.

    SEISMOGRAPH DON'T LIE!

I love, around the 5:00 mark, oldgringo shouting, "I can yell! I can yell all I want!"

I'm especially disturbed by his behavior at the 5:40 mark when he rips off his sweaty jersey and splats it right in some innocent guy's face.

And then at the 6:06 mark, you can see the fear that oldgringo has put in the referee, who says, "I asked him three times to stop staring at me to try to intimidate me."

Scary dude, oldgringo. "WHACK! Get out!"

Happened to me in New Hampshire when I was in High School so had to be 1970-71, something like that. My problem was that it happened at around 3 AM and I just happened to be awake. A momentary shiver that wouldn 't have woken anybody up and a sound like "thok" and that was it. The only way I could get anybody to believe me was finding it reported a newspaper. IIRC it was a 2 point sumpin.

Sorry but did anyone else just read this from sarge, and then naturally keep reading down to his quote under it and get the hibbie gibbies?

My daughter and I were recently Hanging around, trees were sparse. We decided to use one tree in common. When she moved in her hammock, it felt like the shaking one might receive in a little quake.

Another experience that shows how dumb our Canadian Government thinks it people are.
Three Sunday afternoons around 5 pm, we had the ground rattle and shake. First time it was more or less ignored, we just asked each other if we felt the earth move. The second time it happened there was a little mention in the local paper. On the third event, there was an explanation on the local news, earth quake hits FSJ. Come on, three quakes, each at or near 5 pm, on a Sunday afternoon, exactly two weeks apart. Ya, we all know about the secret USA training facility near by...
We just had the tree quakes and then they were finished with whatever was happening, I highly doubt they were naturally occurring without the help of man.

I think the ride in a hammock during a earth quake would be fun, if you were in a safe place.

Small temblors can be quite entertaining.

Example: While my then girlfriend was visiting me in San Diego (circa 1992), she experienced her first earthquake. She didn't realize what was happening initially (it wasn't a big quake). When I told her that yes, it really WAS an earthquake, she started getting REALLY nervous and concerned, asking if we needed to get out of the building. My response? "Nah baby. It's all good. That was just me making the earth move for you."

Remarkably, it worked. We just celebrated 20 years together.
