Very bad idea. If it did slip, the knot would attempt to release the bury!

To the OP...the more weight you add, the tighter the bury grips.

always test with your hangs and push down into the hammock. Or push down on the ridge line.

It means to make sure the rope on the outside of the splice is tightened back down over the inner rope. In that way it works like the finger traps people used to get at the fair. It puts constant pressure on the inner rope keeping it from slipping.

At 285 My whoopie slings hold me just fine, I admit I was scared of them and used straps for a year or so before I took the plunge and bought them, now I wish I had purchased them sooner.

    I bet you will too.

I think I'm going straight to the straps without a toggle for now. Maybe I'll get more brave later.

Took a while to get to this point!

Thanks for clarifying the "Milk" advice. I got it as soon as you said "Chinese Finger Cuffs". It made total sense after that.

And for the rest of my rotund brethren; thanks for the reassurance. It makes me feel much better about this.

I fell just right about two feet on to the granite while fishing in the High Sierras a few years back and cracked my tailbone. Then had to hike out about 3,000 feet and five miles down. By the time I got to the bottom I swear I was seeing in black and white. That definitely made me a bit gun-shy!
