    DIY UQ straps

I have struggled (like many here) to keep my UQ where I want it, especially on asym hammocks where the diagonal lie drags the UQ away from my left shoulder.
So, I tried a new approach last night that I wanted to share.
I went to my local auto part store and bought 4 alligator clips (like this pic)
    Alligator Clip

Instead of electric wire, I put some black (3/8"?) shockcord (it fit PERFECT) inside the sleeve and crimped it down.
holding by UQ up to my wing on the BB

And voila...you can make any length strap and the alligator clip will 'bite' anything small enough to fit inside.
It did a great job holding the UQ in place, stretched as I moved around/got out of the hammock.
This might be a good solution for issues aroung the footbox on the BB hammock.
    Hope it helps someone else

That is cool, that would allow you to determine the exact location to sew something permanent.

I could see those being handy for bunches of things. Great idea.

I've got bunches of them gathering dust in my electronics junk box, and have to give that a try... great idea.

Have you noticed any wear or punctures where the teeth bite into the fabric?

This is the first time I've used them, so no. But I think you might over time.

Like TAK said, I would only attach them to Grosgrain loops or something 'sturdier' than ripstop long term.

I like TAK's idea of using them to figure out where to sew tie-outs. I'm in the middle of cobbling a 10x11 tarp, so this is timely for me. Back home I've got some of that liquid plastic stuff you dip tool handles into. When I go back in April, I think I'll try some of that on the teeth.

    Update,
MY UQ looked no worse for wear after using the alligator clips on it. It didn't have much tension most of the time...just holding the UQ in place.

I will continue to monitor and report back

You could use something like this this don't about the weight but it can't be too bad and should be a little kinder to your UQ

I like these better. I have both the ones that you slide to lock and the ones that have the knob are easier to use.
