    Adjustable ridgeline on blackbird

Has anyone swapped out the ridgeline for an adjustable one? Any benefits? Where I hang my hammock in my yard is a pretty small space and was curious if an adjustable ridgeline would help.

I have swapped it out in mine, mainly as I am vertically challenged and got to thinking that maybe the "standard" just wasn't my thing. Now what I haven't done is to measure where I have it dialed in vs. what the original RL length is. But whether I am shorter or longer (with the RL ) it does feel better.

What I did find, was going extremely short made the hammock down right uncomfortable. My thinking was making it sag more might work and give me a flatter lay (due to my lack of height), however that was not the case.

So I don't think making your RL will help your space issue...but you may be able to dial in a more comfortable hang.

And since I know your dying to ask, I am 5'6".

I have a DIY hammock and use an adj. RL.
The benefit is that the 83% for a RL is a guideline and you can dial in just right for you or anyone else that may use that particular hammock.

After you get your gathered end hammock, no matter the kind, set your 83%, THEN, use the adjustment to dial in your ridgeline. You can now make a non-adj RL if you want and use the adj one for the next hammock.

Be very careful not to make the ridgeline any longer than the original, you are very likely to rip the bug net.

Motohanger. I am right the with you measuring it at the whooping height of 5'6" myself and I round up!

Florida hanger, that was kind of my plan. I did make one while I was waiting for this to come but I am unsure how to attach a ridgeline to my diy. I didn't sew a channel end, I just whipped the ends and every tutorial I find is with the sewn end. Can you explain how to attach it to my style end?

Shotgunred. I see you have left on your hammock description. Could I have instructed Brandon to put the zipper and shelf on the opposite side? That sucks cause when I lay in my diy, I put my feet to the left and the foot box on the one I got is on the right.

Yes you can special order a lefty, it does cost a little extra($15 I believe) but well worth it for me. Like you I was already accustomed to a feet left position.

Since most adj RL have one end with a loop, just slip that over your whoopie sling and slide the loop all the way down to the attachment point to the hammy. the adj side goes around the other whoopie sling.

Hope that helps. Show us pics when your done.
