I go backpacking to go fishing. Not so much searching to be entertained as it is why I go to the woods. I can go fishing without backpacking but I can't go backpacking without going fishing.

My first camp out this year I set up camp and decided that my first campfire of the year was going to be made by friction. I carefully harvested dried wood from around the campsite, made a fire board and bow, got some stuff together for the amber and went to work. Yeah right. After an hour of that I started my first campfire of 2o13 with another fire.
I do a lot of playing with the dogs, fishing, hiking in the general area and plant, tree and mineral identification. Although I'm not real good at it I have been able to tell the difference between a maple tree and a granite rock.
At night, I like to watch the fire that I made with a fire and think about all the good times and friends I've had over the years.

How do you pass the time once everything is set up?

When camping with friends, we talk, play some "Fact or Crap" or "Smart A**" trivia cards, or go hiking at night to find dismals (small glowing creatures found in Alabama). When our boys were younger we brought glow sticks that they would spin on a length of paracord.

We also enjoy making a desert of some sort after dinner.

I wholeheartedly agree Paul- those are some beauties you caught. I wish I could find native fish like that here in the SE. BTW- did you catch them in that lake with a tenkara rod?

If I hike til I'm tired I will go to sleep early. With the kids they provide entertainment. Also bring a deck of cards and that keeps us busy.

Three different lakes, and yes all on Tenkara gear. Unfortunalty they are not natives. While Cutthroat are a native and wild fish in many parts of Idaho most lakes don't support a spawning population. So every 3-5 years fry are dropped off either by plane bombing runs or by hikers packing in loads to restock each lakes populations.

Straight from a BSA Troop webpage:
    Fart Baseball - Official Rules

Fart Once - Get on base. Fart Twice - Get on second. Fart a Third Time - Get on third. Fart a Fourth Time - Go home and get a run.

Outs - If someone farts before you get home, you’re Out and that other person assumes their base position. Only one person on base at a time. (More points are scored with controlled release)

In-Park Home Run - If a fart clears the room, or all windows are opened in an automobile, the player receives a in-park home run.

Pop Fly - If a player attempts a hit, but only is able to produce a red face, they suffer an Out and must leave base.

Soiling - If you soil yourself while playing, it’s an automatic Grand Slam. Quick way to achieve four runs.

Winner determined at end of day or other pre-determined period.
There are a few other uh rules when played amongst hikers on a long trail.
    Trust nobody!
