The "pad dance".... hehehehe wonderful description. If you want to stay with you tradition pad don't even think about an HH unless you must have the bottom entry. The double layer Blackbird would be the way to go. That said... HH does make the Super Shelter which is a formidable insulation system in its own right where the pad dance is not an issue. But it is a more costly option than the Wally World famous blue pad.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I don't think I'll ever need a pad in my Blackbird, as I will only use it when bugs are out, and then it is warm enough for my WB Torso UQ to be sufficient. When I use a pad in my double layer WB Travel hammock it usually ends up slipping out from under me during the night. I know the slick fabric is the same on both Warbonnets and contributes to extra slippage, vs. the more textured fabric in Hennessys. I wonder if the pads stay in place better in the Blackbird's asymmetric design than they do in a simple end gathered end hammock, like the Traveler?

Yea, I've gotten pretty frustrated with the HH and the "pad dance". I'm glad it's not just me struggling with this. So I think for me it ends up to picking up a WB or Claytor JH and keeping my pads or consider an UQ but they're not cheap and I'm not sure I want to commit that much yet.

    At least you're honest.
Pick the BB. I've got a couple of Claytors and don't really have anything bad to say about them, but they aren't the same caliber of the WB BB.

What about having this modification done. Top enty zipper for the HH, seems like that would make it much easier to lay the pad and bag in, sit down, lay down and close the fly shut??

I have never had the zipper mods done. The problem I have had with the pads is not getting them in... it is getting them to stay in place. I don't think the zipper mods would make a difference on that score. But this is _my_ experience only. YMMV The Super Shelter is a viry viable option from my experience.

The evazote foam pad I have is pretty sticky and doesn't move too much, it's just trying to get the thing positioned when you're entering from the bottom. A 2 layer bottom still might be best but just trying to figure my least expensive options as money is tight right now.

As I'm typing this I'm laying in the BB with the blue wally world pad in between the layers. It was easy to insert and is extremely comfy. I tried the pad in my DIY hammock but it was way to much a pain in the butt. Sticks to me and the hammock but not this set up this is the cats butt right here. So glad I got the double layer will not regret.

New to hanging and new to the board. May I suggest a way to possibly avoid the "pad dance". I have HH Expd. using a plain-jane Therma-Rest (1 1/2" thick) As soon as I get situated on the pad, I let the air out and it kind of folds up my sides and stays with me. Not sure if it would be good for cold weather but it seems to work for me so far.

Thanks to all of you for the abundance of information.

    apples to apples

If you really want to compare an HH to a double-layer BB, you really have to introduce the SuperShelter on the HH. It holds a pad nicely in place above the Underpad.

Pad inside the HH is an exercise in frustration.
