Be careful with modifications on your WBBB

I bought the WBBB a couple weeks ago. It finally shipped and I got it today.

I planned to modify it with some whoopie slings, so I watched the video on the Warbonnet website on how to do it and went to set it up. It seemed to go up fine, however when I went to test my weight in it, the end of the hammock was almost completely torn off.

Apparently, it came unraveled in such a way that the ridgeline of the hammock gave way and my entire weight was held by the small black strap for the suspension, which is basically attached to the bugnet and edge of the hammock itself.

It completely destroyed the hammock to the point that it is unusable, and I didnt even get to lay in it yet... I emailed Warbonnet to see what my options are, so waiting for their response.

I re-watched the video to see if I did something wrong, but as far as I can tell, I did exactly as it said. I also never heard of this problem from anyone else, so it makes me think I had to have done something wrong.

I guess I just want to say, if you plan to modify the suspension of your WBBB, be extremely careful.

    OUCH!
I really hope Brandon can help you out in some way.
I not really visualizing how that could happen. My best guess is that the larks head got undressed somehow before you put tension on it and rolled off the gathered end. The ridge line capture is soposed to stop that but if that happens then you would put all the weight on the retention ribbon and I guess that is the result.

That really sucks, let us know what you get back from warbonnet.

So the lark head of you whoopee slipped off and it was still attached to the grosgrain at the end of the bugnet???
Just trying to understand. I bet it made and ugly sound. I do know of another incident of this happening.

If you look at that video, there is a small black loop that you thread the whoopie through first. It seems to have unraveled itself so that all the weight was held by that black loop even though it was still threaded through the ridgeline as well.

    I'll have to inspect mine.
I modified both of them with Whoopie slings several hangs ago and have had no issues.
I just ran the new cordage exactly where the old one was.

I'm not sure what you're saying "unraveled itself", but it seems clear that the larks head/girth hitch of the whoopie sling slipped off of the end of the hammock body. You either didn't get it tightened down well or somehow (???) did not have it located correctly.

    Ouch!!!

Be careful with modifications on your WBBB

Ive owned my blackbird hammock for at least an year and a half, always using whoopieslings, like you the first thing I done was change to the whoopieslings, i never had any issues. A few months ago I replaced the whoopieslings as a precaution,

That must have sounded terrible when you first laid in your hammock to hear that sound, i cant imagine it.

Wow, that's a bummer. Always gotta make sure you have your continuous loop or whoopie cinched tightly around the gathered end.

sorry about your hammock-------hope it all works out for you!
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
