Tight hook

Now that I've used a Dutch Hook a bunch of times on 1.75mm zing-it, I've decided the hook is tighter than I'd like it to be. I'm curious if I can tweak it open a little. I'm not familiar how titanium bends. Can I jam a flathead screwdriver or cold chisel in the opening and give it a whack with a hammer to bend it open a little?

Dutch has said in previous threads that the antennae on flyz can be opened a little. Not really sure about his hooks although it is probably doable, Dutch himself will be the best person to answer.

Yes, Use a flat head screw driver and wedge it in holding the hook with pliers. However you may void the warrantee of your screw driver.

What i did was lay the hook on its side and got a flat head screwdriver that was just alittle bigger at the shaft end and put the sharp part of it in the place on the hooh that i wanted -more open- and with the palm of my hand gave it a good bang.
The screwdriver then gets stuck in the crevice and that seems to be enough,

I have not broken a hook yet,but i have ended up with a sore hand once or twice.

The funny thing is Dutch is kinda of not joking, thats why there is disclaimers on the packaging of a screwdriver when you buy one. In law class i read a case about how someone was prying a paint can open (like im sure many of us have done) and the screwdriver cracked and a fragment was stuck in his eye. So in turn he sewed and won. Thats why at the paint store they give you those special pry bars now.

Sorry that i brought this thread of topic, i just like useless knowledge!

But im sure that it would be easy to bend the hook!

So this is off-topic but on-topic... Is titanium ductile like steel where it keeps it's strength if you bend it or does it fatigue like aluminum when bent? Brittle like magnesium?

I know it's light and stiff and hard to drill or cut but I don't know how it bends. Just curious.

It bends nicely actually. It doesn't stress it too much. I bend A lot of TI and I can't say I ever broke any. You certainly aren't going to break that hook.

This is good info, I'll try that on my hooks. They are a little too tight.
