Hey Gil,
I am going with the external pole no sew mod for my Superfly. I ordered carbon fiber poles from Quest. I went with this setup because it seems really simple and lightweight. I feel it will be good for all weather conditions except heavy snow. I think for heavy snow, as pointed out by HF member Outandback in another thread, an internal pole with a steeper angle would be better and not as likely to collapse. I'm also intrigued by another idea someone mentioned, about sewing pockets on the inside of the tarp where the pullouts are located and using a short internal pole.
...and they did come today, I'm thinking about trying to put them on in the dark, my tarp is already setup
...Tell me no lies, make me a happy man ...
Thanks Hangin Tuff. Sounds like a good set up. Once you've tried it out, let me know what you think.
I'm going on a hang tomorrow and a couple of the folks coming are going to show me a couple of different SF pole variations. I'll take some pictures and pass along the info.
All the best !
Gil

Just stumbled across this and I may come. Im new to the whole hammock camping thing but this sounds fun and looks like a good way to learn a few things. Do I need to bring anything for the group or just my own personal stuff, etc?
I saw a lot of talk about snowshoes and id def bring mine if we have snow.
My setup isnt the greatest as im on a tight budget so hopefully itll work in the freezing temps!
