    Which tarp?

This is all new to me and I need help buying a cheap tarp. I am down to two but don't know which is better quality. So which one do you recommend? Or do you have another suggestion?

From those two, I would get the Chinook 12x9'6" tarp. It is made from a Polyurethane coated polyester, so it won't stretch and it has cat cuts along the edges to make it easier to keep a tight pitch.

I believe the Guide Gear tarp, you have to watch out for the dimensions being the diagonal measurement. So if you pitch it A frame style, it will be much shorter and won't cover all of your hammock. There are past threads about this particular issue on the site.

    Cheers

    I own both.
Chinook is awesome but heavier and smaller than the GG. The GG however I've struggled to get fully seam sealed and has drip on me numerous times.
    Chinnook is now my Go-to.
    Directionally challenged...comicly so.

For tarps in that price range, I would take the one from buscraftoutfitters. It has loops for attachment points instead of grommets.

If you are looking to get out for minimum cost, just get a hardware store blue poly tarp. Not the lightest, option, but hard to beat the cost. Once you know you are going to be hammock camping regularly than you can get the better quality tarps made from silnylon of cuben fiber.

    Cheers
