So far it looks as though I may be able to make this. I got it marked on my calendar. It all hinges on when our scout district has the pre-camporee. I have heard through the grapevine it will be the later part of Feb so that would work out great. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Has anyone ever tried their hand at a little gold panning while staying in Uwharrie? Any creeks nearby Yates Place? Looks like it would be something fun to try. Seems the original gold rush started in that area back in the early 1800's.

El Dorado Outpost has all types of panning supplies and I'm sure Chris the owner could give you some advice on which creek would be a good choice.

Dutchman's Creek is a short hike from Yates Place. I have seen people panning all the creeks at one time or another

I'm hoping to be able to come to both this and the Smoked Butt hang. Neither is 100% at this point. I'll update the spreadsheets as I get a better idea of what my schedule will be like.

Daniel and I had a great time in November!

I bought a panning kit before my first trip, but it was close to freezing that trip and after collecting drinking water, the idea of panning sounded painfully cold. I still want to try sometime though. I have a co-worker that collected a total of an ounce or so of dust and tiny nuggets over a few summers.
