Not enough to make a difference IMO. Then again, I don't use my Claytors much. They are mostly for loaning out to curious people.
There are at least a couple of Claytor fans here that have made that mod to their hammocks, hopefully they will chime in and tell you their results.
    Trust nobody!

so i have a claytor. the webbing attaches to my hammock via a channel built into the hammock (guessing 3 feet wide?). my stock webbing runs through that then tightens up as i hang the hammock. it is not bunched w/ some chord tied around the end like some other hammocks i see. will i not want to run this chord through the same channel as the stock webbing is now?

ultimately, how far do i want the ring to be from my hammock?
The channel is 48" wide and you do want to run the cord thru the channel. Also allow plenty of room in the cord loop for the channel to slide around. I would put the rings at the same height as your netting is when you are using it. This gives you the option of putting a ridgeline on that will pull up the netting for you when you hang it. Look at RAW's thread on the ridgeline for a Clark and set your Claytor up the same way.

so about 7' of cord each side sounds safe. that setup sounds great w/ the netting ridgeline attached to the rings

    i appreciate you guys
