    UL value hammock/tarp?

After reading many posts, I can see that there is quite a range of price, features, and materials for hammocks and tarps out there. What I'm interested in is a fairly light, even ultralight, hammock and tarp that are "budget priced". Weight is important to me. Comfort is important. Cost is important. Seems like it's easier to get a good bargain for an UL hammock than an UL tarp. What would the HF brain trust recommend I look at in the $100-$200 range for both? I'd love cuben but can't afford it.

For hammocks, you'll need to know the weight limits of the fabric (will it keep you off the ground). Do you want an integrated bugnet? A double layer hammock? They add to the weight.

For just a plain gathered-end hammock, it would be hard to beat the BIAS Hiker Lite at $34.95 and 9 oz. For $49.95, there's the BIAS Weight Weenie Micro at 6 oz.

For UL tarps, there's cuben fiber and not exactly. Sounds like your price point dictates silnylon. I heard good things about the WL Tadpole, though I prefer a bit more coverage. Still, it's only 11.2 oz and $85.

DIY is always an option. I completed my entire setup, DL hammock, huge tarp, 3 Quilts, and all suspension for under 200 and it is all pretty lightweight. It is also a ton of fun......although I am still finding down in my house a month later

This seems like a good deal on a minimalist tarp: http://www.mountainlaureldesigns.com...roducts_id=149

BIAS hiker lite is $35. That leaves you $65-$165 for your tarp. What kind of weather you got?

+1 on this. I have one, haven't had a chance to put it to a good test but it is definitely light, affordable and well made. Spinn is the next lightest thing to cuben.

I just picked up a hiker lite from BIAS for 35 bucks and I love it, also have a blackbird. For the price I think the wilderness logics tadpole for a tarp is hard to beat. Warbonnet also offers fabric seconds on the big mamajamba if you want a little more coverage.

    Likin' my BIAS

Weight Weenie, which was about $50 and is light. DIY is another option. I went with a cuben tarp, but spinnaker is close in strength and weight.
