Video: Superfly performance in High Winds

This last weekend, agent00111 and I met up to do an overnighter on Mt. Baldy, one of the peaks over 10k in SoCal.

The weather called for winds and a dusting of snow. We figured it was a good opportunity to test out our gear.

We started the trip at 6,000 feet, at Manker Flats, below the overcast, with a slight sprinkle of rain, to keep us cool on our steep ascent to the summit. The Ski Hut Trail ascends from 6k to 10k in about 4 miles. About 1500 ft up we broke through the clouds and were rewarded with some spectacular views. We set up camp for the night on a ridge at about 6800ft. The video link is below where you can enjoy the views that we had and you can see how well the Superfly performed in high gusts of wind. The next morning we took off early and made the summit by 8am and then descended via the Devil's Backbone, a narrow trail with over 700-1000 foot slopes on either side. It was a great weekend!

    Hikingboots,

Nice video, Boy I miss the mountains of California since I've moved to Fort Worth. At least I'll be back next May to do the Silver Moccasin trail, so I've that to look forward to. Thanks for letting me enjoy Mt. Baldy - at least vicariously

Nice video! Shoot me a pm next time you guys are up in the area, I am right down at the base of Mt Baldy!
I may be dumb, but at least I'm ugly!

I've done so much, with so little, for so long, now I can do anything with nothing.

Good old Mt Baldy, one of my stomping grounds growing up in Cali! Lot's of fond memories of heading up there in the winter I'll have to add it to my backpacking bucket list.

    Cheers.

I really enjoyed that TR and video!

4000 ft gain in 4 miles? WhewEeee, that's a steep climb! At least you didn't have to haul the 50+ lb loads common a few years ago!

I can't seem to watch the video it says something about WMG and BMG rights management blocking the content because of my country.
