    You are going to be bike touring? A poncho doesn't work well when biking....
    I am into bagpacking as well, so was thinking in a multipurpose design

    What is your planned route?
    The plan so far is to take the "Albrect route" (link)

    If you want to pursue your general design, make the hammock body a double layer without the air gap, slip the pad between the layers (as many do) and let it be your insulation whether you're on the ground or hanging.
    My DD hammock is double layered and I tried once to put an self-inflating pad in, but wasn't comfortable... but maybe I should see if I could get used to it
