    Question Headroom?

So, Ive sold off all the trappings of my ground dwelling past and I'm ready to buy my first camping hammock. Im still torn between the Blackbird and the BMBH but I think I'm leaning towards the BB at the moment for its greater flexibility to be used with different tarps.

What I was wondering is this. I like to sleep on my side/back with one arm extended either under or above my head (sometimes both). How much room is there around your head when laying in a BB? Would I be able to extend my arm much before it was stopped by the hammock? Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Sean

This is pretty much how I sleep when I sleep on my left or right side.I don't have any problems with being cramped in the hammock, especially around the head/shoulders, but I am a short guy. Only 5'4".

    YMMV

I can actually sit up in my hammock and not hit the bugnet, sometimes.

The BB has the most headroom of any hammock I have been in to date. The side tie out configuration provides a very roomy interior.

Not sure exactly, but it definitely has a lot more *head* room than any of my other hammocks.

Yes. I sleep with my hands behind my head, or extended out when laying on my side all the time in my BB.

Both the BMBH and the BB are great hammocks. Both allow for back/side sleeping, IMO. BB will accomodate wider bodies better than a BMBH. BB has more internal storage (wing.) BMBH is slightly more comfortable, but not much. BMBH requires a wider pitch on your tarp, or "roof spreaders" to avoid the poles rubbing on your tarp.

You could flip around like a kid in the Blackbird and still have extra room.

I find the BMBH very comfortable in the sleeping position you stated. Tough call. Get both

Welll it looks as though my concerns were unfounded. I think there might be a blackbird in my future. I emailed Brandon about the current wait time so we'll see soon. Haha Hopefully I will own both at some point... like maybe when I actually have a job?

I just ordered a BB. Brandon says expect about a 3 week wait time.
