Hey all. Got the last minute temptation at 10pm Thurs night to get the rig out and try my new Mamajamba in temps and conditions that I've yet to experience in my hammock. Got the nod from the old lady (more like a roll of the eyes followed by "whatever. There's something wrong with you") and I was collecting my gear.
I set up in blizzard conditions, at -2*, and in the dark.
New Mamajamba fly - wish I had staked it closer to the ground.
Hennesey super shelter overcover
Warbonnet BB
3/4 Crowsnest UQ
Hudson River UQ
Old Sierra Design -0* down bag TQ
Wiggys poncho liner
My normal winter sleepwear plus balaclava.
It was gusty all night and when the sun came up there was 10 inches of snow on the ground. The last time I looked at my phone it was -3*. I was warm and toasty and well rested.
It went so well Thurs I pushed my luck and went out for more Friday. Same setup but the low was around -7*. Same result. The combo of the two UQs kept me plenty warm and the Wiggys liner boosted the bag perfectly. A little condensation led to moisture on the outside of my bag but that's to be expected.
I was thrilled with the Mamajamba. I'm confident that the extra coverage was the difference maker in achieving the lower temps that I would not have attempted with my hex tarp.
Thought I'd share. Thanks guys.
