Are you kidding me? You are saying you were hanging from a tree that was actually struck? Well, I guess that means ( as you were not hurt) that you are in no more danger hanging than ground dwelling. I thought I was kind of out there experience wise having the center INSIDE of my house struck and starting a fire. Then tales by T-Back and others let me know that some hangers have even wilder experiences, having actually been struck. Now here you are with actual experience hanging from a tree that was actually struck!

No kidding, that's what really happened! I wouldn't say that hammock hanging is safer than ground dwelling wrt lightning, though. If you get hit, you get hit. Either way you'll probably get fried. I'm thinking I was just ridiculously lucky.

I always figured that, being in a dry nylon hammock with no other path to ground except the trees, that I was more like the filament in an incandescent light bulb. I got lit up, but not toasted.

Normally I would have had my aluminum crutches resting against the hammock for easy access, but they had fallen over earlier. I'm sure that I would have fried if they hadn't. Did I mention that I was really lucky?
