The only time I was worried was when I was camping in a field using my Turtle Lady Hammock Stand. The 10' pole that's used made me think twice about sleeping in my hammock when an extreme lightning storm rolled through the area. Wound up sleeping in the car.

A 10ft ungrounded horizontal metal pole would have negligible effect on the odds of a strike. Even if it were grounded, the strike would have to be within 10ft of the pole already for it to even affect the path of the current, and a strike that close would already be a problem. The fact that you were the tallest thing in a field was a much more significant issue.

Methinks your friend knows how to push your buttons. Next thing you know you'll be worried about change in your pocket, or the zipper pull on your hammock!

Don't forget that belt buckle - probably ought to leave the belt at least 100 yards from your campsite.

I was out in a huge storm one of my first hammock camping trips. Lightening struck about 30 feet from my bike, I needed clean underwear after that. So I believe you could get struck by lightning but I don't think it's likely.

Knitting needles, knives, change, zippers, wet zippers, turtle lady hammock stands...during a lightning storm...you need not worry about the lightning, but you better darn sure know that sasquatch is right there and to be feared.
