assistance from the experts here please

I've been in a HH Lite Racer for several years....alas it has developed a rip...I remembered that HH has good competition in the Warbonnet Blackbird.
What differences should I expect from the two?
The double bottom Warbonnet-is that for a therm-a-rest? or a CCF pad?
Will my JRB underquilts work on the Blackbird?
    Thanks for any clues.

Yes...every pad I'm aware of fit
Will my JRB underquilts work on the Blackbird?
Yes...there are some adjustments around the footbox some have found necessary. But they still work

    Hope that helps

    MM,

Good to hear from you again.

All of the standard family of JRB quilts as well as the Mount Washington series of JRB quilts fit extremely well.... The BB bottom is near identical to the HH without the asym tie outs, which is also to say that it has the same bottom feature/ lay as an ENO both of which have used JRB UQ for years...Here is a picture of JRB MW-3 on WBBB ...http://www.jacksrbetter.com/FAQ.htm scroll to bottom.

If you are going exclusively with underquilts i would go with a single layer bottom. It is lighter and you will be surprized how much a bb weighs compared to your racer. You will also feel like you are in a giant hammock compared to the racer.

I finally got around to hanging one of my JRB quilts as an underquilt on the BB. Happy to report that it worked wonderfully! Haven't had a chance to try it in the cold, but initial 'fitting' went without a hitch.

Pads aren't an issue as far as I can tell; it's a pretty large compartment so just about anything should fit.

    thanks for the info

and Jack(s) the Mt.Washington has become my quilt of all quilts I own. Just returned from 2 weeks on the trail in PA (finally finished PA thank God!) and you'd think the Mt. Washington too warm for mid-May in Pa..not at all, was def. cold several mornings.

I realize you can save weight with the single layer but as the temps really drop I'll often carry a 1/4 inch CCF for insurance or to increase the temp range...the weight cost between single versus double was what 5oz??? and methinks it obvious the lifespan of the hammock should increase.....I've gone the entire gamut of carrying 50-60 pounds in my youth to 3 years ago going with 15 pounds...now i'm edging up and am comfortable with 20-25 pound loads so the double bottom will be ok along with the straps and triangle thingies.

I've written Warbonnet dude-no reply yet but I'm sure he's still recovering from TDs.

    Thanks again to all.
