    I don't know as there are any reports of broken lines from a Garda hitch. There is an observation that with Amsteel it flattens the braid bundle and rubs off some coating. That may or may not be an issue as the base material is hard to get anything to bond to and is extremely resistant to compression damage. In other words it might look a lot worse than it is.

    OTOH, if you use Dutch Clips or the trail wood toggle's described above, you will never leave your tree straps on the tree as they will always be connected to the hammock. To prevent gunk on the hammock, I use some oversize Pawn Bags (Knight Bags to keep the chess theme going) to stow my straps in.
