I'm glad this popped up. Great videos. They filled in a lot of blanks for me.

I'm using amsteel for the suspension chord. Is there any way to prevent the slippage without replacing the chord? Thanks for the info!
I use this method sometimes using SMC descending rings (2" diameter, more or less) and Amsteel. While I have had the ring slip when I'm just tensioning the suspension (and can keep that from happening by holding the ring with one hand while I pull on the working end with the other), I've not seen the ring slip after the length is set and I get in. More wraps are better, if you're using 2 or 3, try 4 instead.

Or you have a polished ring somehow.

Or the laws of physics work differently in East Central Illinois than they do elsewhere, I dunno.

You could also get some dynaglide class cord, make a cord loop that is garth hitched onto the ring and prusiked onto the suspension cord, and use that to hold the ring in place. Not nearly so elegant, but you won't have to replace the suspension cord.

Aha! I think the rings are the culprit! I have some SMC rings on order, but I got impatient, and bought some steel rings at the general store. They are polished. I'll try again when my new rings come in, and let you know how it went!

Most helpful. Clear. I'd guess your students find learning less painful if you teach with the same clarity, patience and humor.
    Thank you!
