1. ## Single point hanging??

Anyone know what this hammock/tent/chair is?

I did a bit of searching and can't find much info. Now my wife wants me to buy or manufacture one. Not much to go on but a photo on FB.

8. Can any of our structural engineers figure out what the load would be on given say a 12 beam, a hammock hanging at the ideal 30 degrees and a 250 lb load?

9. Length of the beam actually doesn't matter (for compressive load) it gets complicated with flexural load - you need to know the flexural modulus and moi of the beam. It changes based on shape and material.

For "cocktail" napkin calculations though:
compression on beam = load / tan(angle)
in this case 250lb / tan30 = 433lb compression
incidentally - this is exactly the same as the force on two trees holding the same hammock.

torque on end of beam = (Length of beam / 2) * (Load / 2)
--*note that this torque is if you support the beam from the middle, if you support the beam on the ends, as shown above - there is negligible torque.
