Ok, I see that a few of the more knowledgables have jumped into this. I am wondering, how much line does this take to make a decent sized rope shackle that could replace a carabiner? I have a use in mind already and need to know how many feet to buy so I can make two of these.

This is awesome. I'm gonna make a pair tonight or tomorrow. Not sure what I'll use them for b/c I'm gonna stick with the Dutch Clips on my huggers, and larkshead my hammock support directly to the other end of the hugger. But I'll find something!

Playing with these, I'm making the loop so that when closed, it's just barely larger than the diameter of the rope. Don't know if it makes much difference other than making me a little more comfortable.

Way to take it to the next level!

Splice before stopper and ends after it is.

Shane, the stopper is tied in the splice. Give yourself about 4" of bury to work with. Tie the stopper Knot in the spliced section.

You can run your backsplices first. It appears these will also help prevent the stopper knot from sliding up once loaded. Some of my testing shows simple stopper knots in Amsteel will slip out.
