There's a recent thread on different setups for different price levels. Good info there. But, just as IHangnBankhead was implying, figure out where you want to end up, and start out there. He's a serious woodsman who has found out that after modifying the suspension, entry slit, and bugnet, and adding a sewn-in pocket to his HH, he may have been better off to start with a BB that comes with a better suspension, a zippered bug net, no need for an entry slit, a built in storage pocket, plus a double bottom and the satisfaction of buying not only American made, but American-HF-member-and-supporter made. But like RR said, each to his own. Heck, some folks still like to sleep in tents.

I agree with that advice if it is possible. But there are times when I think that is not possible and sometimes I think half the fun of the journey is the journey. For example, had I decided ahead of time that I wanted to end up in a Blackbird I would now be stuck (rather literally) in a hammock I can't get out of. Not fun. I did experiment with a variety of other styles including my infamous attempt at a Dual mode bridge with BEEP. It was fun. Part of the journey was finding out just exactly where I wanted to end up. Does that mean the other hammocks were Newbie hammocks? I don't know. But I don't think so.

How we digress! I think the original post was whether an Explorer was more comfortable than an Expedition. He said he wanted to buy a HH! That's good enough for me, but, in my (our) defense, a question like that is like throwing a piece of meat into a school of sharks.

I did not mean to engage in a feeding frenzy. I'll stop now.
