Billybob 58 you must really get around. Be careful about Mirror lake in the High Uintas, sting up your hammock there and you may never leave. It is absolutely beautiful there. Lots of good hikes and fishing as well. Timpanogas caves are fun to go through if you are in that area.

I grew up in Utah about 30 minutes north of Salina, which is right on I-70 (only had one mom ). If you get of I-70 in Salina, head north on highway89 about 15-20 minutes, you can hit some beautiful mountains. But, it depends on how adventurous you are. To really hit the high country, it will take you another 45 min on dirt roads (well maintained) to get into the high country. You'll be sure to see Elk, deer, etc. So, for example, you could head up 12-mile canyon, which is located in Mayfield, UT. Or Manti canyon, which is a bit further north in Manti. Or you could take off up Salina canyon, and find someplace in the national forest. There is a lot of stuff in that area, but nothing right off the freeway.
