    Hammock reference....in National Park

we are planning a trip next week to the Smokey Mtn. National Park and was on their back country permit reserve site....and saw the following where they have had a tree fall and take out the Cable system for bears.

"BEWARE of placing any tents or hammocks near to these cable systems until the trees are removed and the cable systems have been repaired. ".

thought it was cool to see them reference Hammocks !!!

They also reference hammocks on their $1 backcountry map and refer to them in their rules compendium.

Specifically, don't hang hammocks in or on shelters.

I have seen hammock campers on several of my GSMNP hiking trips. It is clear that they are popular in the park. It is good to see that they are aware of hammocks and are creating regulations to suit.
