What do people use Tyvek for?

I read in a thread about people trying to find tyvek (can't remember which subforum it was in).

What are they using it for? A ground cover perhaps? I wouldn't think it would be a very good tarp.

Ground cloths are good, works for stuff sacks, undercovers, top covers, and yes, even a few tarps running the woods made of tyvex.

My favorite use of Tyvek is as a lightweight windshirt. The company below sells individual pieces inexpensively, in different weights. Buy a couple + experiment with the comfort for you in wind + rain. Just cut off the legs of the coveralls below the zipper.

Thanks for the info. There is a lot of building going on in my area so I might slip by one of the sites and see if I can find some laying around.

It would be good for my motorcycle camping, fold flat and out of the way.

I always thought the Frogg Togg line of cloths was a form of Tyvek.

You may want to take a look at these articles. Might find some useful info in there:

I really like bringing Tyvek with me. It's great to have a dry, clean place to set things on when unpacking my pack contents, and especially for when I'm packing back up. Should the unthinkable happen and I HAVE to sleep on the ground, I have my groundsheet. I also like to slip my sitpad in the folded up Tyvek for a little extra padding at break times, or around the campfire. Either I'm getting less padding, or logs are getting harder !
