    Sleeping Across the Middle

of a wide hammock? ... ENO DoubleNest for example 6'8" wide.

    Is this feasible and comfortable?

My guess is that it must be quite slack but the width dimension would tend to collapse.

Because it's an end-gathered hammock, the material won't let you get completely flat while perpendicular to the gathers - at least not unless you have a hammock that's wider than an ENO Double.

It is quite comfy to use in that position as a lounger, with your legs folded.

    Thanks--
Recall reading that Mayan families slept cross large hammocks, but most of them were pretty short and adapted to it. Related to the intimacy thread ... they managed to make little Mayans in hammocks too.

Last year I started a thread about getting hammocks to lay flatter and one of the ideas I tried was to cut out an arc in the ends prior to sowing the seams for the ends. This resulted in a very flat and initially went too far but has possibilities.

Possibly 2 pieces of fabric seamed long ways with just the right amount of edge length adjustment to flatten it.

Spouse wants to occasionally sleep in a hammock but not the conventional way -- I'm not going to make a bridge for her.

it is also great when using a slack line as a foot rest - very much like resting in a recliner

Exactly how does that work? Any pics?
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us....that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

If I'm stopping and feel like setting up my hammock for lunch, or a break, or just lounging at my Dad's cottage, I love to sit across with my legs crossed. Great position for reading, watching birds and animals, or just being lazy.

basically I just run a slack line between the rings that the straps attach to and adjust the length of the line so that when I rest my feet on the line they are supported

in the attached pic I am using 550 cord (aka P-cord) and although I don't show it in the pic a tautline hitch makes the adjustment easy
