Thanks for all the input!!!! I just ordered the zeppelin from Paul at UGQ and a protector. I have a couple of short trips planned in the fall and I figure if the down doesn't work for me, it will be an easy sell and I will have tried it out. I may end up going the synthetic route in the long haul (especially when I have rainy winter days to hone my DIY skills) and then I can try both ...thanks again for the advice!

I've not used synthetic insulation for about 6 years now. Interesting to note is that I had synthetics in a dry climate, down in wet. I came from Alberta, Canada, which is a pretty dry climate, and moved onto Vancouver Island, which is straight up rainforest. I've never had moisture problems, in my tents or hammocks. I live in North Vancouver now so same conditions. I've been kayaking on the West Coast of Vancouver Island for 4 days where our tent had to be moved several times because even the high spots were filling up with water it was raining so hard, no issues with wetness, other than being under a tarp instead of paddling, to be fair, we did paddle anyway, when it slacked up enough to be able to see over the splashback on the water. Now, I just make sure I protect it by setting the tarp low and keeping it bagged well. I also put my UQ inside my hammock during the day so it doesn't get splashback. Ymmv

Being on the wet coast as well....it is down all the way for me.(got a Zeppelin 20* coming as well) As others have said keeping things dry is key and personally I find even though it is wet here on the coast the air has a dryness to it as strange as that sounds. Guess coming from the Eastern humidity side, things are just never dry at times even under cover.
