    new gear and family hang

    Hi All,

I have been lurking around here for about a year, and now I am slowly dipping a toe in the proverbial hammock waters. It's about time to take the full dip with my first hang, and I am doing it with my wife and 11 year old daughter to boot.

We have 3 different rigs. My daughter has a new Hennessy BULA (a newbie with hammack venacular even!). I have an ENO DN with the humongous and ever reaching, gigantic ENO Bug net (HEAVY, I hope I have room for food after I put the ENO Bug net in my pack.), with the Kelty Noah 9 tarp.

My wife will have aTreklight DBL with a homemade bugnet and the Sportmans Guide Camo tarp. She is also going to make herself a light UQ and TQ. My daughter and I are going to use DIY SPE.

We will be backpacking in the SMokies the last two weeks of August. I hope to report back with a successful experience. My only worries are regarding the few nights we will stay in a car camping campground. I hope the rangers won't make us go to the ground?

Good luck, make sure you practice a few times prior to the real thing. That way if you need to bail in the middle of the night you simply walk inside

Please keep us posted about how things go for the three of you!

-Oh, and we sure like photos here !

Maybe someone can chime in about hanging in that area....... (?)

    TY

TY for your replies, Road Torque and Perkolady,

Roadtorque, We would love to practice but we live on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, there is no place to hang here, legally at least. We may have a practice night just before we leave for the trip as a relatives house next to the GSMNP.

Perkolady, yeah it is special for me to take the family, luckily they are game enough to try hammocking out.

    Welcome to the posting side!
There are no regulations against hammocking in GSMNP. I specifically checked, again, about 4 months ago. I doubt the Rangers will give you a hard time.

    HAVE FUN!!!
