Something that might be worth doing if you don't have hiking poles is to pick a pair of trees not too far (~10 ft or so, given the length of the tie-outs on the hex tarp) from bushes or other trees and then tie one side's (or both sides'!) guylines to the bushes/trees at about head height. This offers the same view without having to carry anything.
For bottom insulation, there are as many ways to do it as there are to hang a hammock. My current set-up uses a poncho liner rigged up
as an underquilt
. It should be good for me down into the low 40s/high 30s, which is pretty much all you need 98% of the year here. However, I'm a notoriously hot sleeper (I'm from CT originally, and they thought I was crazy there
