    Palmetto Trail - Pomaria, SC

Muskrat, Rick & I enjoyed a night out on the Palmetto Trail and got the chance to try out some gear in cold weather.
Temps were close to 20 and very damp.
Moon was full and so bright when it crested over the horizon that we thought it was either ATV's or a bunch of people coming down the trail with flashlights.
I stayed warm with my new Hammock Gear 3S Phoenix and Burrow top quilt!
We even had a first-time hanger out ther with us and he did pretty good.
Here's some pictures taken with my cell phone. I edited them as best as I could.

Enjoyed the short trip. Most impressed with the inverted Superfly manuver, definitely will have to give that a go next time out. Great campsite for those in the Columbia area where we are short on hiking trails that we can legally overnight on. Water located next to the campsite and all along the trail.

Looking forward to the next time. . .

I'm always looking for new places to go here in SC. Is there any info on this on sctrails.net?

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.

I have hiked the Peak to Posperity leg before in summertime:
    http://www.palmettoconservation.org/Peak.asp

They have a campsite on it, but i have not stayed there.

At the Peak side down at the river under the bridge before i hiked it i saw a very large water mocassin laying on the canoe ramp, right before it lunged at me and then juped backwards into the river. Once i got to the camping site, which is closer to the other side, and noticing it was very low and right next to the water i didn't want to spend too much time there. But on the trail i did find plenty of stawberries and blackberries

That hammock is a coyote brown 1.0 WBBB.

Not sure if there is alot of info out there on this particular section. I also have additional pics in my gallery and took a pic of the trail map. Looking forward to getting bac as this is really in my backyard, well about 10 miles from the house.

If "SC" means "Southern California", then I had some for lunch! Great little smokehouse in Huntington Beach, CA, called the Beach Pit Smoke House. The owner took a long trip through the South, visiting every smokehouse he could find, and getting recipes and ideas. His ribs and pulled pork are as sgood or better than any I've eaten in south Carolina!
