    Noob with a Whoopie/Amsteel question

I just received my first Amsteel and I am looking to make some continuous loops and whoopie slings. To date I have viewed and reviewed what seems like a million videos/pictorials on the subject, but I still have one question that I can't find the answer to. Where do you start the taper?

There is a manufacturer's recommendaton with regards to bury and taper length. From this chart:

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/a...9&d=1311746299

    For the eyesplice for 7/64 amsteel: bury=4.58", taper=2.3", total=6.9"

I've made smaller than recommended without incident but YMMV.

Please be careful in posting instructions for making these items. The above instructions are for a class 1 product which would be nylon or polyester for the things we would use. And as such the measurements for buries and whatnot are different. The instructions for a whoopie sling from amsteel blue are here...

Another point to make note of is the taper on a fixed eye of a whoopie sling is different than the taper on a fixed eye of a straight length of line. The bury is also shorter on the fixed eye of a sling as opposed to a fixed eye on a straight length of line. Some speculate the taper is the way it is on a sling because of the derate of the line due to the tail exit of the adjustable eye, essentially making the derate of the lack of taper irrelevant because of the tail exit of the adjustable eye.
