underquilt advice?

I have a 5 degree Western Mountaineering down bag with a Hammock Gear Winter Pheonix down UQ and have stayed warm in -20F weather.
A -20F bag might be a bit overkill, large to pack and heavy.

Sounds like if yours going to stick with hammocks you should just get a TQ made by one of the vendors that will fit you

A stormcrow made top quilt is a great way to go. However, if you would like something a bit less expensive, but at the expense of more bulk and a bit more weight, you might want to look into a 0 degree ArcticShield sleeping bag. Instead of using traditional insulation like down or poly-type, it uses a laminate layer similar to insultex, with a thin layer of hollow fiber surrounding the laminate. Using my compression sack, it compresses down to 8"x8". It only weighs 3 lbs, which for a 0-degree bag, is impressive, down or synthetic. The best part is that its only made for 6'6" height. The actual length of the bag is 84", I'm only 6' myself, makes it easy for me to duck completely buried into my bag on those really cold nights. I've had it down to 7 degrees F. and was completely warm and cozy. Unfortuately the retail chain that had exclusive rights to it,BassPro Shops, lost those right to another company that only sells on Ebay. They don't come much larger then this. Unless you go to full rectangular bag:

that looks like a great sleeping bag, but i just dont have 600 bucks laying around, i was looking at http://www.stuffitsleepingbags.com/product/44235
which isn't as wide but its a little taller
