    Cuben Fiber Hammock

    Hey Everyone,

A few months back I built a cuben fiber hammock. The hammock is 108" long and 52" wide and has a base weight of 4oz.. I used the .75oz material for added durability and now feel the extra 1oz was worth it. I have been testing it on and off with pretty good success. Besides it being a little slick and not breathable it works great.. I figured sooner or later I would have to post some pics so here goes... Keep in mind I am 6'2" and weigh around 200lbs so im not exactly small...

Very cool! Looks very well done, and those pics do a good job showing off the green cuben.

    How's the stitching holding up?

Looks nice. What did you use to seal up your end channel?

Thanks for all the kind words... The hammock is 100% bonded and is stitch free. I have tested every tape and adhesive known to man and all the usual suspects work great. The most common tape that everyone talks about is the 3M 9485PC and that has about 30lbs/inch of lap-sheer strength.. The most common adhesive is Hysol which also works great and is suppose to be stronger than the cuben but in my tests it always failed around 40lbs/inch. I hope this helps...

I have used my C gathered H for a couple of years. I couldn't figure out the channel, I just tied an overhand knot in each end and hung from that. I used the .35 I believe. I am 185 lb. haven't been dumped yet, but I still have a wee bit of worry as it is so flimsy looking, but still remarkable stuff. As I don't sew and with my just using the knot bit, it is is neither sewed or bonded! dirt simple! gnome

I think I need to try that, My cuben just dropped me on the concrete floor when the whipping slipped off the end.

I am thinking about building them to sell on my website so this has been my working prototype. The production model will have a few more bells and whistles. Maybe a built in stuff sack and 34 gram climbing carabiners for the ends..I heard the "hammock knot" can slip on cuben since its so slippery but I have never tried it so I don't know...
