    Massachusetts Newbie Needs Help!

Considering a hammock instead of a tent and am really enjoying Shug's video's and information. I've read a lot of trail journals and forums on this stuff but need to see one up close and personal.

Also I don't know ANYONE that hammocks and would really like to find someone in the New England area interested in evangelizing and showing off their hammocks.

I've recently purchased a down 15F sleeping bag and plan on using that with a neo-air (large) for 20F+ weather. With the boys scouts most of our camping is around freezing and above. Rarely I'll see below 20F.

Anyone in the area that has some time/patience would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    -Stephen

    Welcome to HF Stephen.
If you will go to the HF home page, you will see a HF Google Map on the right. Click on that & you can see some of the HF members near you.
Hopefully someone can hook up w/ you & let you try out a hammock or two in person. I know I was wanting to try one out for myself before making my first purchase.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I don't think a NeoAir will be sufficient insulation at 20 degrees, though YMMV. The sleeping bag for "top" insulation will be fine, but you're likely to need a bit more than the Neoair at 20 degrees (I've tried it and I was cold, btw).

FWIW, double layer hammocks make it much easier to manage a pad inside the hammock. Alternatively, you might consider a Speer SPE or a custom version thereof that is sized for the Large Neoair but add ANOTHER pad on the bottom...even a standard CCF would work as a second pad.

    Welcome to HF...and happy hanging!!

I'm a cold sleeper and the NeoAir works fine for me in the 20s. Go figure. But adding in a evazote pad isn't hard to do, just in case.

I think I'll be south of you near the CT/MA border doing a section 4/23-25 so I will wind up missing you.
