    MD AT hike Dec 16-18

I'm heading out for 50 miles over 2 1/2 days if anyone is interested.

A different version of this hike would be to start at I70 / Rt 40 parking lot. This cuts about 5 miles off the first day. I'll be starting back at South Mountain Inn. DO NOT wait for me at I70. I'll be breezing through there and will meet you at Raven Rock or on the way if you choose to start here. Sort of a hike your own hike thing. The main deal will be to hang together and tell stories of the day and what not.

(The below mileage is rounded out for simplicity)

    16th -
Opt 1: South Mt. Inn to Raven Rock - 19 miles
    Opt 2: I70 to Raven Rock - 13 miles

    17th -
Opt 1: N to PenMar (5 miles) then S to Black Rock Cliffs - 20 miles total
Opt 2: S to Black Rock Cliffs - 10 miles

18th - hike back to parking

Just thought I'd work this up so folks who don't want to do 20 miles in a day can still come and meet at the hang spots and have a great time. It's an easy area for access with excellent views!!

I live in Western Maryland, about 1 1/2 hours from Boonsboro where this hike starts.

Cool. I'll be in touch in a few days. Don't normally do 20 mile days but I might be able to stretch it a little.

Dec 16th, parking at Old South Mountain Inn just outside of Boonsboro, MD between 6-6:30 am. Heading North 19 miles to the shelter about 5 miles back from the PA border.

Dec 17th up early and hiking to PenMar, enjoy the view, then hiking South to Black Rock Cliffs, about 22 miles for the day.

Dec 18th sleeping in, enjoying the morning, hiking the last few miles back to the car.

Come along for all or part of the hike. Water sources are flowing, trail is clear, views are spectacular. One or two good climbs with most of the trail being moderatly easy hiking.
If all goes well, I'll be meeting you at the I-70 overpass on the AT; which will be making my journey about 15 miles

This sounds like a nice trip! It’s relatively close to me... If I can find someone to look in on my dogs for two days I’ll be there! Then again... I don’t want to slow you down any. I haven’t hiked 20 miles a day in, hmm.... I can’t remember when.
I’ll see what happens in the next few days and let ya know...!

    Hey there!
If you'd like, you or anyone else; can hook up with me at the Route-40 I-70 parking lot (13 mile Option 2) and we can take our time somewhat, I assure you, Joey will catch up with us before we get to Raven Rock! I'd enjoy the company. I won't be going to Pen Mar on day two, but taking the 10 mile option back to Black Rock and setting up there; knowing Joey, he'll be leaving for Pen Mar before the sun rises, so by the time he returns, I should have eaten and be packed and well on the trail by then.

Yea... this sounds good. Where is the parking lot? I come up 270, hit 70W, How far out is 40? Is there a visible P-lot?
