    Question Which ripstop??

Hello fellow hammock hangers! I am wanting to make a simple single layer hammock but i am a pretty large guy weighing in around 250-270ish so i am wondering what the best material would be to construct my hammock? Or will i have to just make a double layer? Thanks! -Matt

I think the 1.6 ounce hyperD from Ripstopbytheroll.com would be pretty good for you.

I would agree with the 1.6 HyperD. I'm 265lbs myself and a single layer of this works well for me.

I would also be selective in the suspension. Use stronger materials for your suspension, the fabric is only part of the dependability of your hammock.

I suggest you read through the posts on thread injecting. You do not want your stitches too close together, because they tend to cause problems when stressed. Lots of little details to consider, to have a reasonably safe Hang.

Remember, never Hang higher than you are willing to fall, or something along that line.

If you're not going to be backpacking or weight isn't that much of an issue, I'd go for the double layer option. Perhaps Argon 1.6 as a top and some 1.0oz for the bottom. That extra assurance would add peace of mind.

If you're going for the single layer, Argon 1.6 or HyperD 1.6 will be the way to go. I've had a 330+lbs person in my Argon hammock with 7/64" Amsteel and normal 1" polyester webbing with no problem.

Have you seen the great weight chart of Dream Hammock?

I agree with the others: go for HyperD. It feels great. I weigh a lot less, though

I can also recommend 1.6 HyperD but I think you are pushing the limit. If I was you I would go for 1.9 oz.
