This past weekend I took my son out for a beautiful Spring weekend hang. My Son "the General" came upon his nickname the last time we hiked as a family when he led the "troops" by doing a drill sergeant Hut left right left routine on the family. So that led to "The General" who we also call "a dictator without a country."
Anyway so we took off down the Appalachian trail southbound to the Tom Leonard Shelter in MA which for us was about a 2.5 mile trip. We stayed at a beautiful area where there was a lookout. The shelter was held by this couple that was there when we arrived, with their tent parked close to the shelter. Their body language and actions were telling us they really didn't want to be bothered. So we stayed to ourselves and just had a blast.
Everything went well until about dusk when for more people arrived carrying in two cases of beer and two small dogs. The general and I went to bed about 9:00 he fell asleep fast where as I had to have earphones playing white noise trying to drown out the group noise out. I fell asleep for a little bit and woke up to them still going at it through the night. at eleven they called more people up and they arrived sometime when I was asleep. At about three they were breaking wood for their fire. About 4 i had it and had to say something to them and they quieted down and kept the noise down. Didn't do much for my sleep cause I was pretty fired up.
With all that said the one person who didn't really get effected was the general. Thankfully he slept fairly soundly.
All and all though we had a great time and a very successful trip. Take a look at the video and i hope you enjoy it.
