Been done before but whoopie slings...

Ok this has probably been done to death before but I really cannot get my head around these whoopie slings everyone is raving about. Could someone please explain to a very slow newbie and clear this up once and for all.

I did a video on this last year, linked in below. Others have also, opie I think, and shug. Mine I can find quickly

What is your concern-- making them or using them? That would really help answer your question or concerns.

@ Grizz: After checking out your vids I went right in to experimentation mode. I've hollowed out more pieces of rope lying around my garage than I'll ever know what to do with figuring out whoopies. Bought some Amsteel and then I tried them. Well, the rest is, as they say, history. My hammock arrives on Monday and together with Dutch clips and your instructions, my first official hang is near! Perhaps a Grizz Bridge in my future also.
CamWaite - personally, I just tried making a couple and then realized their significance. Try them my friend, from one newbie to another, try them.

Yeah, and that whole rope gripping rope thing is just too cool. Lov dat physics (well, more properly mechanical engineering, but that's applied physics...)

Grizz's videos on hamock suspensions were a huge heap of info on the subject and a great help to many, myself included. Part III was what really got me to understand the concept of a whoopie sling and how it works.
