There was one review that claimed the pillow is "actually a double layered pillow and not entirely filled with goose down" have you actually opened them up kc7fys, and do they look alright? I just ordered the OT bag and would love to overstuff it with this.

Hi, everyone. I am one of the "newest Noobs" on the block with this forum - but I have really learned a lot since I discovered it. I just received some camo 1.9 ripstop to make my first hammock and I can't wait to get started.

Just a day or so ago, I was reading this thread on the forum. Tonight, while picking up a few things at Wal-Mart, I checked the camping section and found one of these bags. Based on the feedback here, I snapped it up.

But, I have one stupid rookie question. I understand that the insulating quality of down products - coupled with their light weight - make them the preferred choice for sleeping bags, underquilts, top quilts, etc. But, I also understand that the "kryptonite" of down is water. Wet down loses its insulating value. Should I try to treat the outer surface of this bag to increase its water resistance? Or will that have an effect on the ability of the down to "breathe" and insulate properly?

I think the best advise I've heard is "don't get your down wet". Treating the shell is not going to prevent the down from getting saturated and may hinder lofting and drying.

A couple pics showing the draftube side after the zipper was removed ( I retained the draft tube). And the other is the top after the hood and shock cord had been removed.
You can actually still velcro the top edge together at the back of your neck...and that combined with the now separate hood would keep things pretty warm
