    Cool Snow hang'n...

So Woolman and his son Jay picked me up for a day hang into the wilds of the greenbelt. We donned snowshoes and exercised through the deep powder snow for about a mile and then found ourselves a little nook to set up our day camp.

It was great eating outdoors over an open fire again. Woolman had brought a big hunk of Christmas ham along and I'll tell ya, That was some good, broiled over those campfire coals. Jay had brought some wieners and nice brown bread, which too, turned out just awesome toasted right on the bed of glowing coals.

I don't know about you, but to me there is something way special about hanging in the winter woods that just seemed to capture the three of us spellbound around the fire, talking about only the simple things in life. We had the basics covered with food, shelter and warm clothes, and all agreed that we needed little else, really, to be happy.

We're looking forward to our next winter day Hike N Hang and would recommend them to anyone. lb

Great trip report!! You took the words right out of my mouth about winter hanging. It reduces life to the lowest common denominator.

Thank you Jerzybears for your kind reply. Glad y'all could relate to my "simpler times" way of looking at life in the woods. Hang'n takes all that, to the next level. Being an old school woodsman veteran, even in the snow, I have to make fire.

I make as they say, the real Indian (as in American) style fire, a small one, to cook and warm myself over. There's also much magic for me and perhaps for you too, in those kind of historic dancing flames and glowing embers which we created. The gift of fire. I've done plenty of four season fires for over half a century now and that is another large part of why I'm even out there, exactly where I am, and will be, doing them till whenever.

Us doing our thing in a hammock is a pretty nice way to feel some of the freedom we have left and therefore, a place where we can cast away some of our society shackles and soak in the mental freedom of hang'n cool and living simple.

    Happy hang'n now, hear. lb

Thank you kindly for your reply OutandBack. I'm pleased that you enjoyed it, even though it's a little short perhaps. So, is it your turn next? Week-end's here fellow hanger?

Thanx Brayman for taking the time to reply to my little thread. Much appreciated dude. It's nice to see that you are catch'n the magic part there my friend. I think that mind freedom is something sorely lacking these days. The magic of simply hang'n and warming my hands over a little cooking fire in the winter bush, feeds my freedom, real well. lb

Sounds like a good time Larry! Love the winter solitude, usually find mine early in the morning out on the local lake ice fishing for rainbow trout.

Something special about how quiet it can be... once had a coyote walk right up within a few feet of me on the ice.

    Cheers
