My family will be camping at Cheaha State Park this weekend, hope to give my sleeping bag modified to UQ a try. Likely have to supplement with a pad as the sleeping bag was a cheap 40 degree bag, but gotta test to find out. I may try to go check out the Turnipseed area as well.

I haven't seen the temps yet for this weekend, but to offer a couple of simple suggestions based upon my experience, I was out in the mid-low 30s three weeks ago, and survived fine with my DIY UQ, which I estimate to be a 40° bag (hence making a 50° UQ).
See this thread: How to survive 32° with a 50° UQ

To sum up, I used a space blanket between the UQ and hammock. I would guess this gave me and additional 10°-15° warmth. I also used a wool blanket (doubled over) under me in the hammock. I had both a fleece mummy liner (REI) which I crawled into, and I had a 25° down mummy bag as a TQ. I found it awkward to get adjusted and comfortable with the blanket, liner and mummy bag/TQ, but I never did figure out exactly what aspect of that was not cooperating with my efforts and bouncing. It may well have been the fleece liner on the blanket which may have moved together because of the friction of the fabrics against one another. Eventually it worked itself out, and I was plenty warm all night.

Have fun this weekend and stay warm!

I may be there! I've got final exams at Auburn that week and this would be a great way to end the semester and meet some HF members.

Also, does anyone road cycle and interested in getting a ride in? I may bring my bike and do a ride on that Saturday (the 11th) morning. Cheaha has some good climbs and some nice back roads

Darn, it looks like I'm on call that weekend and stuck in Gadsden. It would have been nice meeting and hanging with y'all.
