Frog sac temp rating

How about my sewnthrough peapod for your JRB 2/3 vest quilt, and your frogsac and your tarp. I know what you mean aobut the stuff sack. I swear all of Speer's stuff sacks are about half the size needed. There is no way you fit a frog sac.

What are the size and weight on the peapod? Current models are 5 feet x 9.5 feet. About 6 inches of each end are fabric only without down. Wondering if it is much lighter than the 30* model I now have.

I don't recall mentioning the JRB TLWUQ in my post...

You should try to get a 20* peapod in its sack!!!

Now *that's* a collectors item.

I keep hoping they will make another appearance in JRB's lineup.

Perhaps I should just put the TLWUQ up for sale...It is one of a kind...larger than the production model. Had to be to fit me. It was a prototype.

I use my frog sac quite a bit actually!
I've also converted it into an underquilt
and use it on my blackbird,
but it'll also work on my double eno.

I've made new shock cord suspension
and sewn up the drawstring so it works again.
It's a pretty nice setup now!

I've got a mint condition one that I would trade for something like an 2/3 underquilt or an original sewn through peapod. Don't have the original stuff sack...doesn't matter anyway...you need a hydraulic press to get it back in there! Also have a origional JRB 8x8 tarp in "hi-vis" green with which to sweeten the deal.

I would also be interested in that kind of swap/trade. I have the Frogsac AND the original stuff sack AND a JRB tarp.

RE: The Speer stuff sack - It's tight; but, I can do it. My stuff sack has TWO draw strings - kinda neat - only sack I have ever seen like this.

I remember the original Frogsac bag had two drawstrings. Some sort of attempt at compressing the thing. And I agree...you could get it back in the original sack..but it was like putting 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag!

You guys are really talking past tense here!
that stuff sack is a bit on the small size but,
I get it back into it easy enough every time.
I only consider this a summer weight bag.
Maybe I've been down south too long?
as my body is more used to warmer vs colder temps?
In the underquilt mode it works very nicely!
and it's much more comfortable than a pad.
I've only tested it down to 42 F this way
but I also had my wallcreeper as my tq/bag.
It doesn't get any colder than that here ......
I'm about to do a coastal kayak trip soon
and I'll have the frog sac and a wool blanket along.
My wallcreeper might be too much and it's down.
wool and the frog sac would work better
in the aquatic environment if things get wet and chilly.
I'll be in a tent though, no hanging on the beach, dang it!

As a fellow Texan kayaker, I'd love to hear more about that trip! I've been wanting to paddle the ICW for a few years. Thought about making a sail to help with the paddling a little bit. Do you have any details about your trip posted anywhere?

Yes, I use my knee and full body weight and the extra "compression" cord.

Forget who said we were talking in the "past tense". At my age, seems everything is past tense.
