Tell me. Is it Zippers? Velcro? Straps? Material? Has your hammock failed? And why?

Zippers for me on anything. Especially clothing. Hammock failure not yet. Longer trips I bring a spare hammock with suspension.

I suspect zippers are a weakness, as LIS says. Serious mfgs of down sleeping bags selling to people who care about weight don't still use heavy #5 zippers on their sleeping bags for no reason. Smaller and lighter would serve their purposes and sales if they weren't more prone to failure.
I suppose that at some time the reliability will get so high with #3 zippers, that will change.
That said, some stuff can be junk from the get-go. Example:
I wondered yesterday if I had my eyeglasses on, looking at a triangular tent stake that looked bent. (My old eyeglasses were defective from the get-go, bending straight lines.) No, I had NO glasses on, and after just a few uses of those cheap stakes, I had bent one in what could not have been hard or rocky soil. That's poor quality, not poor reliability.
Same problem, but between different ears and different trees.That point right between my ears. Every "equipment failure" I've had started there.
Wow Lost in Space I am so glad you cleared that up, At first I thought yea ...zip... Wait, Lone Wolf....nah fail..doesn't happen.
There was an Old Man with a owl,
Who continued to bother and howl;
He sat on a rail, And imbibed bitter ale,
Which refreshed that Old Man and his owl.WOO
