Well, I made it. Woke up a couple times during the night with some cold spots, ended up putting my reflectix under me. Temp reading I got was 18 degrees at about 10 last night so it was probably a bit colder than that. Couldn't get a temp reading in the morning because it was at least cold enough to freeze up the thermometer in my watch(hung on my ridgeline). Lost of frost on my tarp, inside and outside.

As for what to do with all that darkness?
I was just coming off 2 overnight shifts and hadn't slept since Friday afternoon... Crashed last night at about 6:15, rolled out of it at about 7:30 this morning.

I was thinking about you this morning wondering if you were still alive. Glad you made it. I was curious where you pulled off to camp. I'm familiar with Cold Canyon, how far past the dam did you go and where are the trail heads. Thanks, now go have a brandy.

Quite a bit past the dam. If you continue on to where 121 and 128 intersect, take a right to stay on 128. Take a right at berreyessa/Knoxville rd (turtle rock diner is right there). Follow that road up the west side of the lake where you'll see several day use areas along the way. Continue north and the blm land starts past the north end of the lake. There are several unnamed trails with room for a few vehicles to park. The trailhead I embarked from features an old barn that can be seen from the road(about 100 yds off the right hand side of the road). This trailhead is roughly 2.5 miles from the northern most tip of the lake. The trail continues on east past the barn into a canyon.

I set up about another 100 yds past the barn so as to not be too far from my truck, in case I needed to bail in the middle of the night.
I'll remember the brandy next time for sure, would have come in handy

Thanks for the report. Glad your setup worked. Can you tell me if the area allows dogs or mountain bikes?

Will try to join you in the future if I can.

Sidewinder, I believe both dogs and bikes are allowed. Only prohibitive signage I saw was for off-road vehicles.
