and don't think that its just females that are gonna complain.... I'm hearing the same thing at my house from my husband You should have seen his face when I told him I was leaving my hammock hanging out back incase the temps went below 20 so I could test some more. And for Thurs night the weatherman said we "might" get snow.... well there's no way I'm gonna pass that up

Same here, TL. It's like 'role reversal' !! I get the eye roll and head shake a LOT. "What are you making NOW?!??" "You're gonna sleep outside tonight in THIS?!??" etc., etc. "What did the UPS guy bring now and how much did it cost?!?"

I'm not the 'typical female'. I don't buy jewelry, go get my nails done, or wear/buy makeup. Gear is my passion. One evening we were both sitting near eachother on our laptops. We had a good laugh.... HE was listening to Celine Dion while I was looking at knives!

Okay...called another online vendor, and spoke to a zombie that sounded very much like the zombies at Campmor (it must be the water). Said zombie assured me that the bag is in stock, so I placed an order. We shall see...

Got an email informing me they can't ship to OK.

I give up. It was simply not meant to be.

I just went back and reread the initial setup. 27 with no underquilt is pretty good, but then I saw the part about insulated overalls as well. Wouldn't the insulated overalls contribute about 20 degrees of warmth? If so, it would be more like 47 than 27. The main problem with sleeping bags is that the insulation get compressed underneath. A bivy and two sleeping bags wouldn't completely compress, but they don't offer the warmth of a UQ uncompressed.

It's nice to have one piece of kit to take care of all your needs, but if you need 8lbs, a pad and a pair of insulated overalls to get there that's a pretty steep penalty. The price in terms of dollars is good though. The price of weight and bulk...not so much.

Since Randy's initial post...both he and I have had a chance to do more testing with the ECW GI bag.

I've run a couple of different tests now. Here's a picture of my TrekLight Double with the ECW GI bag thrown inside. All I wore that night was a white cotton undershirt, cotton pajama bottoms, and a pair of regular tube socks...and I was HOT. Never did zip up the bag. I would open it a bit to vent in some cool air. Not sure what temp was that night, I don't have a thermometer, but it was freaking cold when I'd get up to "water the lawn".

First test was with a Blackbird + top cover + ECW bag inside.

A hammock + ECW bag + me wearing next to nothing = success!

If I'm not mistaken, Counselor had success with a Grizzly bag he picked up a few days ago. Maybe he can chime in...
